SLOBBER acknowledges that we recreate on the ancestral lands of diverse indigenous peoples of past, present, and emerging generations; each with unique cultures, languages, and histories. Today, Virginia is home to eleven state-recognized tribes, seven of which have received federal recognition:

Chickahominy Indian Tribe,
Chickahominy Indian Tribe Eastern Division,
Mattaponi Indian Tribe,
Monacan Indian Nation,
Nansemond Indian Nation,
Nottoway Indian Tribe,
Pamunkey Indian Tribe,
Patawomeck Indian Tribe,
Rappahannock Tribe, and
Upper Mattaponi Tribe.
